The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has agreed to work with former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, to remove President Yoweri Museveni from power.
FDC President, Gen. Mugisha Muntu, told NTV that the party is willing to work with all people interested in advancing Uganda’s democratisation process.
“We can go with him (Mbabazi) to change this country,” Muntu said while speaking on the sidelines of a committee meeting planning the National Delegates Conference due this Friday.
“Whether he is within or without,” Muntu said, Mbabazi would still be an asset because they are now embracing all democracy seeking organisations and actors.
“We cannot discriminate although we need to check out people,” Muntu said.
While meeting supporters from Kibale district at his home recently, Mbabazi said he had no problem working with the opposition to cause regime change in the country.
“I don’t think associating with me endangers anyone’s liberty,” he said in his usual calm manner.
As for those within FDC who are opposed to the union with Mbabazi, Muntu says “in an organisation even when you have people that do not agree with something but are disciplined enough, then the work can go on”.
Mbabazi was axed from the positions of Prime Minister and ruling NRM party Secretary-General last year.
Last month, Amama said he was ready to work with opposition to cause change in the country.
Everyone expects him to stand against Museveni in 2016 but Amama has not yet confirmed his presidential bid.
A former bush war organiser and funder, Mbabazi has an extensive experience in the art of running revolutions.
He is famed for building NRM structures that have sustained the party for about 30 years now.
He is also renowned for his grassroots mobilisation skills, all of which the opposition needs if they are to face Museveni in 2016 general elections.
