More Mbabazi supporters arrested in Mbarara, Wakiso

More supporters of presidential aspirant, Amama Mbabazi, have been arrested in Wakiso and Mbarara after his youth mobiliser was arrested in Kabale on Monday morning.
Robert Kabarebe Kihembe, a youth mobiliser was picked by police from his home along Nkunda road in Kabale town for allegedly pinning Mbabazi posters and being in possession of T-shirts with Mbabazi’s pictures.
In the afternoon, Police in Mbarara arrested a member of Mbabazi Western Brigade, Bright Muhumuza, hours after Amama declared his intentions to stand for presidency.
Others arrested in Mbarara town over Amama are; Joseph Kiiza, the youth councillor Isingiro district, Naboth Ainemani and Aggrey Besigye.
They are currently detained at Mbarara police station.
Jaffar Magyezi, the Mbarara District Police Commander the four were picked from Tataitwe in Kisenyi while holding an unlawful assembly.
He said they were wearing Mbabazi T-shirts and “mobilising people to join them on the streets to celebrate and cause commotion”.
Relatedly, other supporters of the presidential candidate have been arrested in Wakiso district.
They were found donning Mbabazi T-shirts.
Their colleagues cried foul over the arrest questioning why they are being arrested and tortured in their own country.
“We are only showing excitement that our candidate has declared,” said a supporter.
“Museveni should accept competition like it is in other parties. Did Museveni come thinking he would rule for life,” questioned another supporter.
Two more youth have been arrested in Soroti for possessing Mbabazi posters and T-shirts.
Meanwhile, government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo, has dismissed as false rumours that police has surrounded Hon. Amama Mbabazi’s residence in Kololo saying he “poses no security threat to the country”.
