Produce many children to avoid land grabbers - MP tells Acholi

By Wesley Spartan

Kampala- Aruu County MP Odonga Otto has urged the Acholi to produce more children as a weapon against grabbing of their land by government and selfish people.
Mr Otto said the Acholi should multiply and occupy the land left behind by those who died during the LRA insurgency.
“I am a role model because I have six children and I will add more. That is why I call upon each family in this region to have at least eight to nine children so that in eight or nine years’ time, they can be able to effectively occupy the remaining land,” he told journalists in Gulu Town on Monday.
The legislator was responding to concerns that vacant land in the region was attracting land grabbers. He also advised Acholi youth to avoid selling their land to engage in boda boda business, which he said is not productive.
However, the presidential adviser in charge of mobilisation in northern Uganda, Ms Santa Oketa, said producing many children is only helpful for the well-to-do families.
“Families with enough resources can have as many children as they can provide for their basic needs, but for the poor, I advise them to embrace family planning methods,” Ms Oketa said.
