Muhwezi clears air on Museveni, Mbabazi meet

Kampala.
The Minister for Information, Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi, has said the June 15 meeting that took place between President Museveni and former prime minister Amama Mbabazi at State House Entebbe, focused on the sectarian audios and a letter that have been circulating on social media.
The President had in a brief television address to the nation on Monday said he planned to meet Mr Mbabazi and Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda that evening to ask him [Mbabazi] whether himself or people associated with him were involved in posting materials that were deemed to be seditious and sectarian.
Mr Muhwezi said the President did not, during the course of the closed-door meeting, ask Mr Mbabazi to withdraw his declaration as had earlier been reported in this newspaper and other media. No communiqué was issued after the meeting.
However, Dr Rugunda told this newspaper on Tuesday hours after the meeting that the discussion was “candid, cordial and constructive”.
Mr Mbabazi early this week declared his intention to vie for the presidency in 2016 under the NRM flag.
Mr Museveni has already been endorsed by the party’s caucus to carry the parties flag in the elections.
