Former Coordinator of Intelligence Organs Gen David Sejusa has been arrested, reports Rwenzori Times.

The flamboyant General who last week issued a statement warning that he would use force to remove President Museveni from power, has been detained at Jinja Road Police Station.

According to Sejusa’s aide, Moses Bigirwa, the former spymaster-turned-renegade officer had a brief meeting at Mapeera House in Kampala on Thursday morning.

As Sejusa emerged from the building, some boda boda riders had gathered outside the headquarters of Centenary Bank for an address from him,” recounted Bigirwa.

“Sejusa made a few remarks, greeted them and waved before embarking on his journey. Along Entebbe Road, police intercepted and arrested him,” he added.

“Gen Sejusa was eventually brought to Jinja Road Police Station where is now held,” he added.

Interestingly, after speaking to The Rwenzori Times, Bigirwa was arrested.

Kampala Police Commander Siraje Bakaleke who had just appeared at the law enforcement facility ordered that Bigirwa should be detained and interrogated.

At the police station, Rwenzori Times reporter Wesley Spartan interviewed Sejusa’s lawyer David Mushabe about the controversial army officer’s arrest.

Mushabe said, “Sejusa has been charged with inciting violence. He is now being interrogated.”

Bakaleke said “all politicians who intend to hold rallies in Kampala must consult police.”

He stressed that police received information that Sejusa intended to hold a political assembly in Kampala thus making a preventive arrest.

“Whoever does not liaise with police to organise a rally will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law,” he warned.

Police have barred journalists from accessing the room where Sejusa is being interrogated.

The NRA historical fled Uganda in 2013 to UK where lived for almost two years, saying he feared being arrested in Uganda.

This was after leaking his own letter in which he urged an investigation into reports that those opposed to President Museveni’s succession plan are being targeted for assassination.

Government vehemently denied the plot, describing Sejusa as “alarmist.”

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said at the time of his arrest Sejusa was participating in what was termed as an “illegal assembly.”

He said, “Sejusa mobilised boda boda people and other members of the public to join the illegal procession and head towards Jinja Road. The purpose of the procession was illegal.”

Enanga stressed police realised that, “breach of peace in the city was imminent” thus arresting Sejusa.
