The long awaited ruling on murder case of the suspects of the July 2014 attacks in Kasese will be delivered today by the Army General Court martial.
By the time of its adjournment in March, the court presided over by Maj. Gen. Levi Karuhanga had completed the prosecution hearing but the suspects decided to keep quiet in what their lawyer Geoffrey Sibendire said was a form of defense.
There are 23 suspects that remained on trial after court acquitted thirty others- a decision taken following the prosecutions concession that they were not mentioned by any witness during the hearing.
Those so far released include among others the Rwenzururu Kingdom Prime Minister Noah Nzaghale, ministers Aganatia Katya, Eri Thembo Nyakango, Jackson Muliro and Joshua Baluku.
Prosecution led by Maj. Fredrick Kankwamo alleges that on July 5, 2014 while at Bigando village in Kitswamba sub-county in Kasese district and at the Weigh Bridge along Kasese-Mbarara road the suspects killed 12 people and stole one fire arm which was unlawful.
They were charged with 12 counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder and one of being found in possession of illegal fire arms.
The suspects being defended by Maj. Ronald Iduli and Geoffrey Sibendire denied the charges.
The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces spokesperson for the 2nd Division Maj. Ronald Kakurungu told Messiah Radio that the army court is expected to resume for a ruling at 9am at the Rwenzori square in Kasese town.
Maj. Kakurungu said that the chairman and the members of the court have spent two days in Kasese analyzing the submissions of both the prosecution and defense in order to make a just judgment.
